What is the recycling pick up schedule?
EZ Trash Solutions provides the Garbage and Recycle pickup for the City of Van Horne. They can be contacted at 319-521-6978 or Bill Phillips eztrashsolution@live.com.
Garbage is picked up every Friday and Recycling every other Friday. See Screen shot below for Recycling calendar.
Where do I find out City information?
The City strives to keep its residents informed of upcoming events and announcements.
The City publishes a Newsletter monthly that can be viewed on City of Van Horne FB page, City Website, or City Hall entryway.
There is also a Community sign in the front yard of the Community Center.
In case of Emergency or Water shut offs the City also posts signs in the window at City Hall, at the Chelsea Savings Bank, at the Post Office and the Van Horne Public Library.
Do I need a building permit ?
The City of Van Horne requires a building permit for any new construction, or any remodeling that alters the dimensions of the exterior. This would include additions, decks, bay windows, etc.
Building permits are not required to replace an existing roof, replacement windows, or interior remodeling as long as the improvements do not exceed 50% of the value of the original structure.
Permits are also required for fences, sidewalks and driveways.
Who do I contact to rent the park shelter ?
The Park Shelter rental is taken care of through City Hall 319-228-8238.
The Park shelter has a refrigerator and stove available, and can be rented from Mid May thru August.
Cost of rental is $35.00
Where can I drop off tree brush or leaves?
The City currently provides a brush dump site for tree limbs, tree brush, grass clippings, and garden vegetation.
The site is located north on 11th Street.
Please do not dispose of any residential or commercial garbage or debris at this site.
